I’d be happy with low res 2D graphics I’d rather see them make a complete game in low res 2D, than to only make a third of a game in HD and then stuff it full of filler and forced backtracking.įriends to the End and Costume Pack use most of the same levels, but remove all the out of the way secrets and exploration, and are just about the platforming and bosses. HGH was beautiful, but the visuals are not worth their cost. HGH really suffered tremendously from the lack of actual levels (it was glaringly obvious that the backtracking was only added after they failed to reach their Kickstarter stretch goals) and it’s a shame because the actual levels themselves were great fun the first time around! (Not so much the 4th or 5th though.). But I think they either need to reign in the visual fidelity, or find a publisher that is willing to front the money needed to really deliver on HGH’s concept.

I wouldn’t mind seeing them take another crack at the Half Genie Hero style of gameplay though, since we’ve already had three games in the same vein (in the style of Monster World/Wonderboy).
Shantae sprites gbc resources series#
Pirate’s Curse is the only game in the series to have been made without any sort of major compromise and it is the best in the series by far. Maybe there's a way to work them into a new Metroidvania as transformations, Portrait of Ruin style switching, or as a separate mode in a new game. I'd love to see the Castlevania style gameplay of Friends to the End and the Ninja Gaiden style of Ninja Shantae again, but not over a new Metroidvania. I didn't really like Beach Shantae and there's Mighty Switch Force for the other style. More specifically, Ninja Shantae in Costume Pack. Straightforward platformer - I liked both Friends to the End and costume pack. I'm not itching for more Shantae in this style. The Pirate Queen's Quest DLC was a better version of the game, since it had less padding and you had more powers available at once as Risky Boots. It had too many fetch quests, but it was a solid game. Mega Man X style - I thought Half Genie hero was OK.

The original game would be my favorite if it didn't feel so held back by the Game Boy hardware. I'd love to see the original GBC game remade for current systems. I really think the series works best in that Zeldaish style. Metroidvania - I love the original Shantae trilogy and would like the series to go back to that. What style would you like the next Shantae game to be? There's no new Shantae game announced, but I think it's safe to say that there's always a Shantae game being worked on in some way at WayForward.
